Cal Lutheran Suffers 1st Conference Loss
Southern California College rallied for six runs in the fourth inning of the second game to defeat Cal Lutheran, 6-1, and earn a split in a Golden State Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Saturday at Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran, which suffered its first conference loss, dropped to 22-11, 7-1 in conference play.
In the first game, Cal Lutheran withstood a three-run, seventh-inning rally by the Lady Vanguards to post a 4-3 victory. Leslie Stevens (7-1) allowed eight hits and pitched a complete game to record the win.
Teri Rupe had a run-scoring double and was 2 for 3 with two runs batted in for the Regals in the first game.
Kelly Ingram knocked in the Regals’ only run in the second game on a sacrifice bunt that scored Rosalyn Boatwright from third. Boatwright stole second and moved to third on Jill Anderson’s sacrifice bunt after entering the game as a pinch-runner for Joy Fuller, who singled.
Rosa Jimenez (7-5) allowed seven hits and struck out two to absorb the loss.
Lisa Napier, the No. 1 hitter in the GSAC, went 3 for 9 against Stevens and Jimenez in the two games.
