Eleven players from Thousand Oaks High and 10 from Channel Islands highlight opposing rosters for the Ventura County All-Star football game.

That so many Lancers and Raiders were invited is not surprising: the teams met for the Coastal Conference championship last fall, with Thousand Oaks winning, 27-12. Thousand Oaks also won an earlier meeting last season with Channel Islands, although the Raiders took the Marmonte League title.

“They got us twice, maybe we’ll get them this time,” quipped Joel Gershon, the Channel Islands coach who, along with his Raider staff, will direct the West team.

Richards’ assistants include: Rob Elliot, Larry Mohr, Paul Gomes and Larry Mortensen.

Richards said he will add two players to round out the 40-player roster. David Stratton, a kicker from Moorpark, and Bob Grandpre, a quarterback from Westlake, declined invitations to play.

Ventura’s Steve Dailey, a linebacker-fullback, is undecided because of a conflict with an all-star baseball game, according to Gershon.
