Oak Park 5 Scores Like a Gang at Mt. SAC Relays, Recording Fast Times in 2 Relay Events

Oak Park High sent few competitors to the second day of the Mt. San Antonio College Relays in Walnut on Friday, but what the Eagles lacked in quantity, they made up for in quality.

Oak Park had the fastest time of the day in both the 400- and 1,600-meter relays, setting school records in each race.

Rich Frank, Brian Kane, Kent Richter and Jason Stein combined for a 43.13 clocking in the 400 relay and Brian Padrick, Richter, Frank and Stein ran 3:22.6 in the 1,600 relay.

“I’m really pleased with the way things went,” Oak Park Coach Kevin Smith said. “The guys really came through.”

Not to be outdone, Oak Park’s neighborhood rival, Agoura, also produced some top performances.

Bryan Dameworth and Deena Drossin, the Chargers’ state Division I cross-country champions, both set personal bests in the 3,000-meter run.

Dameworth placed third in the boys’ race in 8:32.2 and Drossin placed fourth in the girls’ event in 10:04.36.

Drossin’s effort was the fastest in the Valley area this year and Dameworth’s is the second-fastest.

Lisa Gill of Alemany continued an outstanding season in the triple jump. The defending Southern Section 1-A Division champion placed second with a wind-aided 38-6.

Other top efforts were turned in by Simi Valley, which won the fourth heat of the boys’ 1,600 relay in in 3:23.1, and Westlake, which placed second in the first heat of the girls’ 400 relay in a time of 50.93.
