Canyon High School defeated Villa Park, 80-51, in Century League boys’ track and field action for Villa Park’s first dual meet loss since 1981.

It was the first time that Canyon (5-1, 4-1) has beaten Villa Park (5-1, 4-1), according to Canyon Coach Wes Owens. Villa Park Coach Dave White seemed unfazed by the end of his team’s streak, which had last 58 straight meets.

“It’s just a down year for us is all,” White said. “We had a lot of misfortunes and they roasted the occasion.”

Owens agreed, but added: “The kids still have a trophy that says Orange County champions and they might have a patch that says Century League champion.”

Canyon can clinch a tie for the league title by defeating Foothill on Thursday. Owens said that he expected to win, but not exactly the way it happened.

“Little things went wrong, like Eddie Washington was horsing around at home and pulled a muscle in his leg. He hasn’t run in three days.”

It didn’t matter. Washington won the 100 meters and the 200 meters.
