College Spring Sports : Sixth-Inning Rally Lifts Canyons, 9-4

Don Pedersen’s run-scoring double ignited a four-run rally in the sixth inning Wednesday that helped lead Canyons to a 9-4 win over Moorpark in a Western State Conference game at Canyons.

With the score tied, 3-3, Mike Bible and Ernie Perez both singled to kick off the rally in the sixth. Bible scored on Pedersen’s double.

The Cougars proceeded to load the bases on two walks before Jeff Flesher singled home a run and Chris Joy hit into a run-scoring fielder’s choice.

Billy Picketts added a two-run home run in the eighth after Adam Grant knocked a solo homer in the fourth.

Corey Aurand went 3 for 4 with a double and home run to lead Moorpark (8-19, 3-16 in WSC play).

Starter Tim Nedin (10-1) picked up the win for Canyons (26-5, 18-2).

In another baseball game:

Bakersfield 7, Pierce 4--Bakersfield rallied for three runs in the eighth inning on three hits and two errors to snap a 4-4 tie in the Western State Conference game at Bakersfield.

With Bakersfield leading, 4-3, Pierce tied the score when Jimmy Doushgounian scored on Mark Keuck’s squeeze bunt in the eighth. Doushgounian had singled and advanced to third on Sebastian Goodlow’s double.

Pierce (11-17, 4-16) scored three in the fifth to jump ahead, 3-1, before Bakersfield rallied for two in the same inning. Dave Clemons had a run-scoring double for Pierce.

MEN’S TENNIS

Pierce 6, Cuesta 0--The Brahmas (17-1-1, 15-1) closed Western State Conference play with strong performances from singles players Bill Kearsley, Tony Cohen and Bill Jacobs at Pierce.
