CITY EASTERN

Morse 78, Patrick Henry 49--Michael Stevenson of Morse, the county leader at 400 meters, ran the 880 for the first time in his career and beat Peter Smith of Patrick Henry by one-tenth of a second with a time of 2:00.7.

CITY WESTERN La Jolla 69, University City 67--La Jolla’s Charles Huff has had a nagging hamstring injury all season, and it still bothered him before the meet to decide the league title. But Huff still won the triple jump. Coach Chuck Boyer wanted to spare Huff, the county leader in the triple jump (48-7), as much as possible. But, with Huff’s approval, Boyer entered Huff in the event because La Jolla needed to take first and second to win the meet. Huff took only six steps on the takeoff of his only jump and leaped 43-10. Jerry Walker improved on his best triple jump by nearly two feet to place second (43-5). Huff also won the high jump (6-0).
