Roundup : Foothill Golfers Are Dominant in Century League Tournament

Jeremy Clevenger of Foothill High School had a two-day total of 6-over-par 150 to win the Century League individual golf tournament Tuesday at Western Hills Golf Course in Chino.

Rusty Van Cleave of Foothill was second (151), Duane Jensen of Foothill was third (157), Jim Greenfield of Canyon was fourth (159) and Jeff Heitt of Canyon finished fifth (160).

In Sunset League golf:

Edison 193, Westminster 193 (Edison wins sudden death playoff, 19-21)--Frank Pantoja shot a one-under-par 34 to lead Edison (7-10, 5-4) at Meadowlark golf course. Steve Peckovich shot a 36 for Westminster.

In Angelus League tennis:

Servite 15, Bishop Amat 3--At Industry Hills Country Club, Servite swept singles play without losing a game to finish undefeated during the league season. Jeff Belloli, Chris Belloli and Jason Chung all won their singles set, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Servite (14-1, 12-0).

In the Sea View League boys’ preliminaries:

Jim Robbins of University won the 800 meters (1:54.5) with Eddie LaVelle of Corona del Mar coming in second (1:58.7) at Irvine High School. Jim Geerlings of Corona del Mar won the 1,600 meters (4:19.9).

In the Sea View League girls’ preliminaries:

D’lyne Kerr of Corona del Mar won her heats in the 100 meters (12.8), 200 meters (26.1) and 400 meters (57.5) at Irvine High School. Leslie Cashion of Corona del Mar won her heats in the 800 meters (2:20.68) and the 1,600 meters (5:31.5).

In Sea View League volleyball:

Newport Harbor 3, Foothill 1--Mike Nguyen had 34 assists, as Newport Harbor (10-3, 8-1) won, 15-10, 15-7, 8-15, 15-10, at Foothill.

University 3, Estancia 1--Scott Leslie had 10 kills, as University (10-3, 6-3) clinched third place with a 15-8, 15-5, 7-15, 15-5 victory at Estancia.

In South Coast League volleyball:

Irvine 3, Mission Viejo 1--Craig Bucolla had 21 kills as Irvine (6-7, 5-4) lost the first game, then rallied for a 14-16, 15-5, 15-10, 15-3 victory at Mission Viejo.

In Sunset League volleyball:

Edison 3, Ocean View 0--Brian Boone had eight kills and three stuff blocks to lead host Edison (14-1, 8-1) to a 15-6, 15-10, 15-8 sweep of Ocean View. Boone, a 6-foot 5 1/2-inch forward in basketball, signed a national letter of intent to attend UCLA Monday.

Marina 3, Huntington Beach 0--Ron Browning had 11 kills to lead host Marina (12-3, 8-1) to a 15-10, 15-2, 15-12 sweep. Greg Ryan had 14 kills for Huntington Beach (6-3 in league play).
