Redondo 6, Centennial 0--Scott Davison struck out 10 in four innings, improving to 12-0 on the season, as the Sea Hawks stayed unbeaten in the Pioneer League with a night win at home.

Davison gave up one hit before being relieved by Scott Taylor, who allowed two hits over the last three innings.

Brian Davison led the Redondo offense with two hits and two runs batted in. Scott Davison had one hit to draw within three of the Southern Section career hit record of 140 and one run batted in to increase his career-record total to 136.

Redondo is 7-0 in league and 24-1 overall, while Centennial fell to 1-6 in the Pioneer standings.

St. Bernard 3, Serra 1--The Vikings parlayed a fifth-inning error by host Serra and the six-hit pitching of right-hander Pat Ahearne into their 10th Camino Real League victory without a loss.

With two runners on and the score tied, 1-1, St. Bernard’s Bernard Balthazar hit a grounder to shortstop. The ball was fielded cleanly, but second baseman Paul Beaman missed the throw, allowing Eric Strand and Dan Melendez to score.

“He just missed it,” said St. Bernard Coach Bob Yarnall. “It was a good throw.”

The Vikings, 16-3 overall, moved 3 1/2 games ahead of second-place Serra (6-3, 9-14) and can clinch their third consecutive Camino Real League title with a win Saturday over St. Monica.

St. Bernard has won 26 straight league games dating to the 1986 season, giving the team the fourth-longest league winning streak in Southern Section history. Lakewood holds the record with 34 straight Moore League wins from 1973 to 1976.

St. Bernard took a 1-0 lead in the first. Eric Douglas singled, stole second and scored on Royce Clayton’s single to left. Serra tied it in the third on a double by Chris Jones and an RBI single by Beaman.

Ahearne improved his record to 6-1, striking out six and walking none. It was the fifth straight game that a St. Bernard pitcher did not allow a walk.

Banning 7, Narbonne 6--The Pilots opened a 7-1 lead after four innings and held off the upset-minded Gauchos for a Marine League win at Banning.

Narbonne scored one run in the seventh and had runners at first and third when reliever Rod Medrano retired the last batter on a pop-up. First-place Banning improved to 10-1 in league and 14-6 overall, while Narbonne remained in fifth place at 3-9.

Winning pitcher Ricardo Bernal had two hits and two RBI for the Pilots, who scored five unearned runs with the help of two Narbonne errors. Chris Fernandez also had two hits for Banning.

Carson 6, Gardena 0--Right-hander Tim Vasquez didn’t allow a Gardena runner past second base and George Malauulu broke the game open with a three-run homer in the seventh inning as the visiting Colts strengthened their hold on third place in the Marine League.

Vasquez gave up six hits and collected two hits for Carson (8-4 in league, 12-7-1 overall). Jason Foster also had two hits for the Colts.

Gardena dropped to 6-6 and 7-11.

Miraleste 11, Morningside 1--Chad Somers went 3 for 3 with two home runs and five RBI and Jesse Esphorst pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead the host Marauders to a Pioneer League win.

Esphorst, a right-hander, had a shutout until giving up a home run in the seventh inning. He had two doubles and two RBI for Miraleste, which improved to 2-5 in league play and 9-12 overall. Morningside (0-7) is in last place.

Mary Star 7, Murphy 5--Rich Negrete and Joe Scognamillo each drove in two runs as the Stars (6-5, 12-9) kept their playoff hopes alive with a Camino Real League win at Fromhold Field in San Pedro. Pitcher Rick Ibarra went the distance to improve to 7-3.

San Pedro defeats Locke--Locke failed to field nine players and forfeited a Marine League game for the third time this season. San Pedro remained in second place at 8-3 and improved to 15-5 overall.
