Community College Softball : Tiner Leads Saddleback Past San Bernardino

Joy Tiner’s bases-loaded double in the first inning scored three runs to help Saddleback College to a 4-1 victory over San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday in a Southern California Regional softball playoff game at Saddleback.

Tiner also tripled, and Debbie Hartwig added an RBI single in the second for Saddleback (34-4). Patti Taylor (33-3) pitched a 4-hitter with 14 strikeouts for Saddleback, the defending state champion.

In other first-round games:

El Camino 3, Cypress 0--Tonya Reynolds hit a two-run home run in the third inning for El Camino. Rhonda Nelson threw a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts for El Camino. Noel Parker (13-9) took the loss for Cypress (27-16).

Southwestern 2, Golden West 0--Host Southwestern scored unearned runs in the first and fourth innings. Katie Joyce had an RBI single in the first. In the fourth, Joyce singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error. Sue Stallard got the victory; Jessica Duran (10-9) took the loss for Golden West, which ends the season 18-16.

Fullerton 4, Antelope Valley 0--Kristin Jacobs threw a complete game for host Fullerton (41-9). Fullerton plays host to Southwestern Saturday and Sunday in a best-of-three series, with the winner getting a berth in the state tournament.
