Share

El Camino College will send a strong women’s contingent and a smaller male group to the Community College State Track Championships on Friday and Saturday at Bakersfield College. The women, who finished second last weekend in the Southern California meet, could make a run at Mt. San Antonio College and Foothill, the top-seeded teams. The men’s team, which finished eighth last week, will be trying to score in four events.

The women should get points in the field events where Debbie Jackson was Southern California champion in javelin and Sherry Sperling won the shot and was third in javelin. In the sprints, Adienna Thomas was third in 100 meters and Tammi Allen was second in 200. Chris Hamilton and Jill Hoffman offer depth in the distances; Hamilton was third in 5,000 meters, fifth in 3,000 and fourth in 1,500 while Hoffman was second in both 3,000 and 5,000. The 5,000 will be run Friday, the other two on Saturday, allowing Hamilton the triple entry.

The relay teams are also strong. The 4-by-400 team of Sherice Hutchinson, Allen, Cecilia Thomas and Adienna Thomas won the Southern California title, while the 4-by-100 team of both Thomases, Hutchinson and Allen finished second to Mt. Sac.

The mile relay of Wilson, Robert Carroll, Sean Roberts and Marvin Douglas ran a strong second last week (3:08.83) and the 4-by-100 team of Carroll, Roberts, Kent Johnson and Robert Barnes placed in 40.79.
