Dan Naulty allowed 5 hits and 3 runs in 5 innings to help Ocean View High School defeat Thousand Oaks, 15-10, in a first-round Southern Section 5-A playoff baseball game Friday at Huntington Beach.

Ocean View (15-10-1), which finished second in the Sunset League, reinstated Naulty, shortstop Todd Bailey and reserve outfielder Brett Reed after they had served 45-day suspensions. The three players were suspended during spring break in San Luis Obispo for violating the school athletic code. The players missed Ocean View’s three spring tournament games and 12 Sunset League games.

Naulty (6-0) was 7-2 with 75 strikeouts last season and had pitched three complete games in six appearances this season before the suspension.

“I was a little nervous in the first inning,” Naulty said. “I wished I could have finished the game, but I’m just glad to be back. I was tired of being off the team.”

The Seahawks will face Mater Dei Tuesday at a site to be determined. Mater Dei defeated Loyola, 9-1, Friday. Thousand Oaks, which finished second in the Marmonte League to Simi Valley, ended its season 17-8-1.

Ocean View had plenty of offensive support Friday. The Seahawks collected 18 hits off six Lancer pitchers. Senior Matt Bertram led the attack with three hits, including two home runs. Bertram hit a solo home run in the second inning off loser Dan Chergey (5-3) for a 2-1 lead. He hit another in the fifth off reliver Blake Evans after Mark Brenner hit a three-run blast earlier in the inning for a 13-3 lead.

The Seahawks used senior Derek Ogle to pitch in the sixth inning. Ogle gave up seven runs in the seventh, including a grand slam by Lancer shortstop Steve Sisco before ending the threat.

“We struggled with our pitching early,” Thousand Oaks Coach Jin Hansen said. “Naulty threw well by keeping the ball down and keeping our hitters off balance today.”

Mater Dei 9, Loyola 1--Second-seeded Mater Dei had 12 singles, and pitcher Tony Pena, who was suffering from the flu, threw a 5-hitter at Santa Ana.

Los Alamitos 4, West Torrance 3--Mike Kelly led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to left to give host Los Alamitos (21-6) the victory. The Griffins trailed, 3-1, with two out in the sixth but tied the score on a two-run homer by Todd Gragnano. Winston Wolf (10-1) threw a 4-hitter, giving up no earned runs, for the victory. Wolf struck out seven.

El Dorado 14, Rolling Hills 12--Host El Dorado scored 10 runs in the fourth to rally from a 10-3 deficit. Chris Olsen had a three-run homer in the inning, and Crosby Spence gave the Hawks the lead with a run-scoring single. Chris Facione had 3 hits, 3 RBIs and scored 2 runs for El Dorado (23-3).
