Studio City Outscores Van Nuys-Notre Dame to End 14-Year Drought

Studio City has waited 14 years to return to the Area 6 American Legion playoffs, but the wait is over after a 12-11 win over Van Nuys-Notre Dame in the District 20 winner’s bracket final Friday at Birmingham High.
Brad McGahan scored the winning run on Chris Romo’s one-out grounder in the top of the 10th inning.
Van Nuys had tied the score, 11-11, in the bottom of the ninth on bases-loaded walks to Chris Lohman and Vinnie Orlando.
Studio City (20-9), which won the area tournament in 1974, assured itself of a berth regardless of what happens in Sunday’s 11 a.m. district championship game. The district champion and runner-up both advance to the area tournament, which begins July 28 in Pomona.
Chatsworth plays Woodland Hills (West) at 11 a.m. today and the winner faces Van Nuys (18-11) at 3 p.m. for the right to meet Studio City on Sunday.
