Cypress Reaches Regional Baseball Final

The Cypress White Sox advanced to today’s final of the Collegiate Summer Baseball Assn.’s western regional tournament with a 14-8 victory over Norwalk in the losers’ bracket semifinal Saturday at UC Irvine.
Cypress, which finished third last year in the national Collegiate Summer Baseball Assn. tournament, will meet Los Angeles State today at 1 p.m. at Irvine for the regional championship.
Tony Tubbs pitched a complete game Saturday for Cypress, and second baseman Cary Windes went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs.
Los Angeles State--which defeated Cypress Friday, 9-1, to drop the White Sox into the losers’ bracket--will advance to the national championships next week in Cincinnati regardless of today’s outcome. Cypress has already committed to play in a tournament in Corpus Christi, Tex.
In a losers’ bracket quarterfinal game Saturday, Norwalk defeated Irvine, 8-4.
