Football Roundup : Nuez Leads Bolsa Grande Past Savanna

Bolsa Grande quarterback Brian Nuez passed for 3 touchdowns to lead the Matadores to a 28-0 nonleague victory over Savanna Saturday night in Glover Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, Nuez connected with Jerry Maldonado on a 29-yard scoring pass that capped a 7-play, 87-yard drive.

Less that two minutes later, after stopping Savanna on a fourth-and-5, the Matadores scored again when Nuez found Raul Dehesa behind the Rebel defense for a 35-yard scoring play and a 14-0 halftime lead.

Nuez made it 21-0 in the third quarter with a 6-yard pass to Trent Wood. Henry Kim scored Bolsa Grande’s final touchdown on a 9-yard run.

Savanna (1-2), facing its third consecutive Garden Grove League opponent, was held under 20 net yards for the game. The Rebels did not cross midfield in the second half.

Nuez completed 6 of 12 for 94 yards and senior Eric Shimomura rushed for 84 yards in 10 carries to lead Bolsa Grande (1-2).

Orange Lutheran 27, Montclair Prep 12--Quarterback Jason Neben passed for 134 yards, rushed for 101 yards and returned an interception 34 yards on the last play of the game to lead the Lancers to their third consecutive victory Saturday in Orange.

Neben gained 101 yards in 23 carries and has a three-game total of 543 yards rushing to lead the county. He scrambled 32 yards around right end on a fourth-down play with his team trailing, 12-7, to set up the Lancers’ second touchdown early in the third quarter.

Montclair Prep (1-2) opened a 12-0 lead behind the running of tailback Mike Jones, but Lutheran responded with three touchdown runs in a row by tailback Gil Greene. Greene gained 63 yards in 20 carries and scored on runs of 5, 1 and 2 yards. Jones led all rushers with 125 yards in 16 carries.

Neben started slowly, completing 5 of 11 pass attempts in the first half, but the senior was 5 of 6 for 67 yards after halftime.

Paraclete 25, Southern California Christian 20--Jason Park caught 5 passes for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns and had 13 unassisted tackles for SCC (1-2) at Buena Park High.
