Verdugo Hills 17, Lincoln 14--Tailback Bob Yerby’s 4-yard touchdown run and quarterback Luis Rodriguez’s 3-yard scoring pass helped Verdugo Hills jump to a 17-0 halftime lead. But 4 third-quarter turnovers almost cost the Dons a conference-opening victory at home.

Yerby carried 18 times for 40 yards and had 3 fumbles. Rodriguez completed 7 of 14 passes for 73 yards and had 1 pass intercepted.

Lincoln had the ball inside Verdugo Hills’ 30-yard line four times in the second half but settled for two long fields goals by Francisco Ortega and Bobby Ysias’ 3-yard touchdown run.
