Crescenta Valley High posted its first win of the season, upsetting Burroughs, 17-7, Friday night in a nonleague game at Glendale High.

Burroughs, which averaged 16.5 points in its first 4 games, scored only once despite driving into Crescenta Valley territory 7 times.

The Indians outgained Crescenta Valley, 233-199, and quarterback Marco Arcipreste’s 4-yard run 1:36 into the fourth quarter cut the Falcons’ lead to 10 points.

But Burroughs, which is ranked No. 10 in The Times’ Valley Top 10, failed to score in its last 2 possessions despite driving to the Falcons’ 31- and 30-yard lines.

Crescenta Valley’s John Whittlock rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown in 14 carries and teammate Victor Ramirez added 58 yards in 13 carries.

Crescenta Valley managed only 41 yards in nonscoring drives.

Whitlock’s score, with 2:52 left in the first quarter, gave Crescenta Valley a 7-0 lead.

The Falcons jumped ahead, 14-0, on Hyok Chang’s 7-yard pass to Shane Cowsill early in the second quarter.

Damon Martin added a 42-yard field goal in the third quarter to give Crescenta Valley a 17-point lead.

Andre Bank led Burroughs with 67 yards in 18 carries and Arcipreste completed 10 of 22 passes for 133 yards.

Burroughs’ Kevin Monaco, who had rushed for 441 yards entering the game, gained only 30 yards in 7 carries.
