Prep Roundup : Fullerton Moves Into First in Tennis

Loraine Lau swept her matches at No. 1 singles and Bonnie Massey and Danielle Leon swept at No. 1 doubles to lead Fullerton High School to a 10-8 victory over Sonora in a Freeway League girls’ tennis match Tuesday at Fullerton.

Fullerton (13-1, 5-0) moved into first place over Sonora, which is 4-1 in league play. Lau won her sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, and Massey and Leon won, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.

In Empire League girls’ tennis:

Los Alamitos 11, Katella 7--Jennifer Shoud, Los Alamitos’ No. 1 singles player, swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the host Griffins.

In Sea View League girls’ tennis:

Estancia 14, University 4--Jeannette Fylpaa won at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-1, 6-1, for host Estancia. Fylpaa, a freshman, is 36-3 this season.

In Century League girls’ volleyball:

Villa Park 3, El Modena 0--Dana Armstrong had 31 assists and Anne Salzman had 25 kills to lead the host Spartans, 15-11, 15-11, 15-10. Villa Park (11-2, 5-0) is in first place at the halfway point in league play.

In Empire League girls’ volleyball:

Esperanza 3, Loara 0--Jenise Webb had 10 kills and Heidi Andersen 17 assists for visiting Esperanza (8-1, 5-0) in a 15-1, 15-2, 15-2 sweep.

In Sea View League girls’ volleyball:

Corona del Mar 3, Tustin 0--Tracy Schriber had 11 kills and Krista Hartling had 7 aces and 5 digs for host Corona del Mar (7-2, 5-0), which won, 15-0, 15-11, 15-11.

In South Coast League volleyball:

Irvine 3, San Clemente 0--Dana Rierson had 7 kills to lead host Irvine (13-0, 5-0) to a 15-2, 15-4, 15-7 sweep.

El Toro 3, Mission Viejo 0--Carrie Appleman had 20 kills and Michelle Mauney had 12 to lead visiting El Toro, 15-4, 15-11, 15-9. El Toro is 2-3 in league matches.

In Sunset League girls’ volleyball:

Edison 3, Westminster 0--Kim Jones had 9 kills to lead Edison to a 15-0, 15-1, 15-6 sweep at home. Coby Hoffman had 4 kills and had 12 consecutive service points in the second game for Edison (8-3, 5-0).

In Garden Grove League water polo:

Kennedy 21, Garden Grove 3--Mark Rinzler, Shawn Miyasaki and Todd Hiltz had 3 goals each for Kennedy (15-4, 4-0), which won at Rancho Santiago College. Kennedy led, 11-1, at the half.
