Burbank Seeks to Rebound Against Schurr

Burbank High, reeling from a 14-6 loss to San Gabriel last week, will attempt to win its first Foothill League football game under first-year Coach Randy Stage when the Bulldogs play Schurr at 7:30 tonight at Montebello High.

Burbank (4-2, 0-1 in league play) rushed for minus-7 yards against San Gabriel and lost 4 of 6 fumbles.

Burbank running backs Tarin Cardenaz (548 yards) and Bill Charles (234) have combined for 782 rushing yards. Quarterback Anthony Valento has completed 41 of 82 passes for 545 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Said Stage of Schurr: “They’re a lot better than San Gabriel.”

Schurr (5-1, 1-0) defeated Alhambra, 35-7, in its league opener. Sophomore quarterback Jay Macias has completed 44 of 81 for 514 yards and 5 touchdowns, and senior Cesar Burgueno has rushed for 546 and 3 touchdowns in 90 carries.
