PREP FOOTBALL : Century League : Foothill Puts the Clamps on Winless Canyon

Running back Brian Chodowski rushed for a touchdown and Courtney Keyler kicked a 37-yard field goal to give Foothill High School a 10-0 victory over Canyon Thursday night in a Century League game in front of 1,500 at El Modena High School.

“I feel we can play defense with anybody,” Foothill Coach Jerry Howell said. “We just need our offense to score some points.”

The Knights improved their record to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. Canyon falls to 0-8 and 0-3.

Chodowski rushed for 96 yards in 23 carries and scored with 4:47 seconds remaining in the half when he dove over from the 1 to cap a 9-play drive. Keyler kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Keyler kicked his field goal at the start of the fourth quarter. Canyon did not get its initial first down until 4:20 remained in the game. Junior Chuck Nickerson, making his first start at quarterback for Canyon in place of senior Todd Burns, was 4 of 21 for 39 yards with 1 interception.
