Scott Finishes With a Rush for Monroe

Monroe’s Curtis Scott finished the season with a Valley-leading and school-record 1,943 yards in 329 carries (5.9 average). He also scored 118 points on 18 touchdowns and 5 two-point conversions.

Since becoming a starter in the final regular-season game last season, the senior running back gained 2,150 yards in 352 carries (6.1 average) and scored 21 touchdowns. In 12 games as a starter, he averaged 179.2 yards a game, gained more than 200 yards in 3 games and rushed for at least 121 yards in every contest.

Jerome Casey of Sylmar gained 91 yards in 15 carries in the Spartans’ 3-0 loss to South Gate on Friday, ending his junior season with 1,241 yards and 12 touchdowns in 178 carries (7.0 average). As a sophomore Casey gained 1,179 yards in 138 carries (8.5) and also scored 12 touchdowns. Casey has gained 2,420 yards in 316 carries (7.7 average) and scored 24 touchdowns during his varsity career.

Receiving: Chaminade senior Brady Mitchell caught 61 passes for 982 yards and 12 touchdowns. Only Hart’s Brian Allen (62 for 818 yards) had more catches. . . . Terry London of Monroe did not catch many passes in the Vikings’ run-dominated offense, but he made the most of them when he did. London had 19 receptions for 431 yards (22.7 average) and 7 touchdowns. He also scored 2 touchdowns rushing and 4 on punt returns.

Passing: Chaminade quarterback Greg Baumgartner finished the season with 2,167 yards passing and 23 touchdowns. Baumgartner, a senior, completed 141 of 272 passes (52%) and threw 11 interceptions. . . . Reseda’s Coley Kyman completed 62 of 114 passes (54.4%) for 1,068 yards and 9 touchdowns and threw 5 interceptions.

Defense: Chaminade’s Jeff Burdick finished the season with 10 interceptions and 212 return yards.
