THE PREPS : Mater Dei Top-Seeded in Tournament

Defending champion Mater Dei is the top-seeded team in the second Newport Harbor-Costa Mesa high school basketball tournament beginning tonight.
Mater Dei, with returning starters Dylan Rigdon and Mike Morris, had a 21-8 record last season and won its fourth consecutive Southern Section 5-A division title.
Other top players scheduled to compete in the 12-team tournament include center Rick Swanwick of Trabuco Hills, forward Scott Campbell of La Quinta, forwards Khari Johnson and Rob Johnson of El Toro and center Malru Dottin and guard Craig Marshall of Saddleback.
The championship game is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. Monday at Newport Harbor. First-round pairings:
At Newport Harbor: Mater Dei vs. Glenn, 6 p.m; Newport Harbor vs. Trabuco Hills, 7:45.
At Costa Mesa: El Toro vs. Mayfair, 6 p.m.; Saddleback vs. Costa Mesa, 7:45.
