Smith Foiled in Quest for Second Tennis Title

Kirsten Smith of Thousand Oaks High, seeking her second consecutive Southern Section tennis title, was beaten by Keri Phebus of Corona del Mar, 6-1, 6-4, in a semifinal singles match at Irvine Racquet Academy on Thursday.

Smith won the doubles title last year and was trying to win her first singles crown this year.
