THE PREPS : Roundup : Fountain Valley Rallies to Beat Mission Viejo

Fountain Valley High School rallied in the fourth quarter for a 56-53 victory over Mission Viejo in the semifinals of the Fountain Valley boys’ basketball tournament Thursday.

The Barons (3-0) trailed, 43-37, entering the fourth quarter, but outscored the Diablos, 19-10. Derrick Corcoran put Fountain Valley ahead to stay with a steal and layup with 1 minute 30 seconds left.

Corcoran scored 10 points, 7 in the fourth quarter. Lewis Murdent scored 12 points, 6 in the fourth quarter.

In the Cerritos-Gahr tournament:

Millikan 74, Kennedy 72--Jim Barker scored 16 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter, but Millikan held on in the second-round game.

In the Garden Grove tournament:

Magnolia 54, Loara 51--Jayson Nester scored 14 points and Jerry Jones 11 to lead Magnolia (3-1) in the championship semifinals. Tes Whitlock scored 19 points for Loara (3-1).

In the Notre Dame tournament:

Orange Lutheran 72, Twenty-Nine Palms 59--Daryl Coles scored 32 points to lead Orange Lutheran (4-0).

In the San Clemente tournament:

Foothill 59, Capistrano Valley Christian 47--Mark Wilkinson scored 14 points and Todd Henrotin 12 to lead Foothill (2-1).

In the Santa Ana tournament:

Santa Ana 51, Orange 49--Oscar Wilson and Chauncey Woolridge each scored 13 points to lead Santa Ana (3-0).

In the Valencia tournament:

Rancho Alamitos 68, La Habra 64--Rancho Alamitos scored 6 consecutive points in the last 2 minutes. Tim Palevec scored 22 points and Gary Lira 20 for the Vaqueros (2-1).

In the Valley Christian tournament:

Whittier Christian 60, Bel Air 50--Paul McKinley scored 17 points and Scott Ferguson 15 for Whittier Christian (1-0).

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Capistrano Valley 48, Valencia 31--Holly Anderson had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead host Capistrano Valley (4-1).

Costa Mesa 53, Newport Christian 20--Kim Good scored 19 points to lead host Costa Mesa (2-2).

Foothill 46, Esperanza 42--Tanya Foxe scored 16 points to lead Foothill (1-2) at Esperanza.

Loara 59, Canyon 53--Heide Sorour’s 20 points led host Loara (4-2).

Los Alamitos 53, Pacifica 22--Melinda Armstrong scored 20 points for Los Alamitos (3-1) at Pacifica.

Saddleback 56, Santa Ana 32--Melody Mayfield scored 24 points for Saddleback (5-0) at Santa Ana.

University 50, Dana Hills 23--Denise Gandara had 16 points and 9 rebounds to lead University (4-1) at Dana Hills.

Villa Park 54, El Dorado 40--Anne Salzman’s 15 points led host Villa Park (1-0).

Woodbridge 69, Irvine 35--Leslie Rathbun scored 16 points for Woodbridge (3-1) at Irvine.

In the Ceres tournament:

Marina 70, Livingston 29--Melisa Sortino scored 24 points for Marina (3-0).

In the Etiwanda tournament:

Tustin 61, Moreno Valley 39--Teresa Perkins scored 20 point for Tustin (3-0).

In the Fullerton tournament:

Bolsa Grande 51, Sonora 30--Stephanie Kleiss scored 10 points to lead the Matadors (1-2).

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

La Quinta 2, Huntington Beach 1--Mark Caresse and Chris Doherty scored second-half goals for La Quinta (1-1-1) at Huntington Beach. Chris Wright scored in the first half for the Oilers.

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

Anaheim 3, Buena Park 0--Jennly Koebli, Kirsten Coombs and Kristine Coombs each scored for host Anaheim (2-0-1).

La Quinta 2, Fountain Valley 1--Lara Crowley scored 2 goals for host La Quinta (2-0). Erin Murray scored for Fountain Valley (1-2).

In the Irvine tournament:

Los Alamitos 3, Troy 0--Leanna Jay scored 2 goals to lead Los Alamitos (4-0).
