Loyola Is Beaten by DePaul, 115-111

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Loyola Marymount scored 111 points against DePaul Friday night in the championship game of the Old Style tournament, but it wasn’t enough to win.
DePaul’s Stanley Brundy scored a career-high 47 points, and Brad Niemann hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds left to give the Blue Demons a 115-111 victory.
With Loyola ahead, 109-108, Niemann hit his go-ahead 3-pointer.
Terence Greene sank 2 free throws and James Hamby 1 to ice the victory for the Blue Demons (7-4).
Brundy, whose previous high was 33 points last week against American, fouled out with 2:31 left.
Hank Gathers, who fouled out with 2:46 to play, scored 32 points to lead the Lions (2-4). Jeff Fryer had 30 and Per Stumer 25.
Greene had 20 points and Niemann 16 for the Blue Demons.
While the Demons were being forced into turnovers by Loyola’s full-court press, Gathers made 9 straight points to break a 16-16 tie and put the Lions ahead 25-16. Stumer’s 3-pointer a minute later gave the Lions the biggest lead of the game at 28-18.
In the consolation game, Vincent Brooks scored 19 points as Austin Peay beat North Carolina A&T;, 82-68.
The Governors (7-4) led 40-25 at halftime and built their advantage to 25 points midway through the second half.
The Aggies (2-6) were led by Corvin Davis’ 22 points and Chuckie Becton’s 14.
