Junior guard Rick Robison of Torrance scored 35 and 34 points, including nine 3-point shots, in wins over Santa Monica and Hawthorne to help give the Tartars an impressive start in the Bay League basketball race.

Enoch Simmons, Loyola Marymount senior guard, scored 28 points against Xavier and a career-high 38 against U.S. International to raise his season average to 21.2 and go over 1,000 points in his four-year career.

Inglewood forward Harold Miner scored 37 points as the Sentinels overcame a 14-point third-quarter deficit to beat Beverly Hills, 76-71, in a key Bay League game. Miner scored 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Heather and Heidi Burge, Palos Verdes’ 6-4 twins, combined for 88 points in Bay League victories over Hawthorne, 73-32, and Santa Monica, 84-11.

Who’s Not

The Redondo girls basketball team, playing without benched center Vanessa Vogelsang, suffered a 77-11 Ocean League loss to Morningside. The Sea Hawks were scoreless in the third quarter and the Lady Monarchs opened a 60-5 lead in the fourth period.

The Marymount College men’s basketball team, giving up an average of 93 points a game, fell to the Fashion Institute of New York, 90-81, to bring a four-game losing streak and is 4-12.

Leuzinger, last year’s Pioneer League basketball champion, stumbled out of the blocks in the Bay League, losing to Inglewood and Rolling Hills.

Narbonne opened Southern-Pacific Conference basketball play with a 95-55 loss to Gardena.
