Tingle Nears Soccer Mark for Assists

Share

Agoura’s Julie Tingle is only 11 assists short of becoming the Southern Section’s all-time leader in that category in girls’ soccer.

Tingle, a senior halfback and two-time All-Southern Section selection, has 80 assists midway through her third varsity season. She needs 91 to become the all-time leader. Tingle’s total of 33 assists last season was the second highest in section history.

This season, Tingle tied a Southern Section record with 6 assists in a match.

Add soccer: Senior Lisa Ferragamo is the highest scoring defender in Agoura history. Ferragamo has 5 goals this season and 11 in her 2 1/2-year career. Ferragamo, a three-time All-Southern Section selection, was the 2-A Division defensive player of the year the past 2 seasons. . . . Agoura Junior Heide Walters has 20 goals in 11 games.

Shooting: After 17 games, Royal is making just 39.1% of its field-goal attempts. The Highlanders, however, have improved from the free-throw line (65%). The team has shot 74% from the line in its past 4 games. . . . Granada Hills senior center Alvin Brown has made a team-high 106 of 184 field-goal attempts (57%) and also leads the team in scoring (18) and rebounding (9.9).

Thousand Oaks Coach Ed Chevalier says that the Lancers will start to loosen up their offense, which is normally played “close to the vest.” He has instructed Jeff Peterson and Darren McMaster to let fly from 3-point range. Peterson is 10 of 18 from beyond the line and McMaster is 13 of 32. Said Chevalier: “We’ve got nothing to lose.” Thousand Oaks has lost 3 of 4 Marmonte League games.

Three Chaminade players--Chris Bruckner (14.3 points a game), Pete Miller (12.9) and Colin Havert (10.9)--are averaging in double figures.

Rebounding: When Dana Jones of North Hollywood grabbed 7 rebounds against Birmingham last week, it was the first time in 7 games that the 6-6 junior center had fewer than 10 rebounds in a game. . . . Taft guard Dedan Thomas has 71 rebounds in 14 games.

Assists: North Hollywood may lack a point guard to match Adonis Jordan of Cleveland or Dedan Thomas, but the Huskies do have 4 players averaging more than 4 assists a game: Duane Braxton (5.5), Dana Jones (5), Tommy Byrdsong (4.8) and Harry Marks (4.3).
