City Section Boys’ Basketball : North Hollywood Mauls Monroe

Paced by forward Ed Davis’ 27 points and a 38-point first quarter, North Hollywood High defeated Monroe, 110-74, in a Mid-Valley League game Friday night at North Hollywood.

The Huskies led, 62-43, at halftime and outscored the Vikings (2-10, 1-4 in league play) in every quarter. North Hollywood (10-4, 5-0) won its fifth consecutive game and had 5 players in double figures, including Dana Jones, who scored 19 points, had 14 rebounds and blocked 5 shots. Harry Marks had 16 points and 10 assists and Ray Fisher added 13 points for the Huskies.

Ray Fisher scored 13 and Tommy Byrdsong added 11 for North Hollywood.

Monroe’s Derril White scored a game-high 32 points and Kenyon Wright added 16 points for the Vikings. Mike Enriquez had 11 points for Monroe.

MID-VALLEY LEAGUE

Reseda 66, Van Nuys 42--Coley Kyman and Mike Basowski combined for 20 of the Regents’ 30 first-half points as Reseda remained a game behind North Hollywood. Kyman finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds, and Basowski added 14 points.

WEST VALLEY LEAGUE

El Camino Real 60, San Fernando 59--Jason Steele provided the defense and Brent Lofton contributed the bulk of the offense as El Camino Real (5-7, 2-3) moved into first place. Steele blocked 6 shots, 5 in the first half, and finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

“Jason totally changed the way they went at us inside with his defense,” El Camino Real assistant Jeff Davis said.

Lofton, who scored 32 points on Wednesday, finished with a game-high 25 points on 12-of-18 shooting and added 12 rebounds.

San Fernando’s Michael Wynn (9 points) made a 3-point basket with 1 second left to cut the deficit to 1 point. Ben Boyd led San Fernando (7-9, 1-4) with 15 points.

Chatsworth 84, Canoga Park 52--Three Chatsworth players scored in double figures, thanks primarily to an overpowering inside game, and the Chancellors shot 60% from the field. Rick Garrick scored a game-high 24 points, and Sam Kim and Ramon Purvis added 18 and 16 points, respectively.

EAST VALLEY LEAGUE

Grant 63, Birmingham 51--Troy Mcleod had a season-high 19 points and 10 rebounds to pace Grant (12-3, 4-1) at home. Grant’s Nate Conner added 13 points.

Poly 66, Sylmar 65--John Bruner hit a 15-foot jump shot with 30 seconds left to give Poly (8-7, 3-2) the victory at home. Bruner scored a team-high 22 points, Juan Estrada added 15 and Scott Copper scored 14.

NORTHEAST LEAGUE

Wilson 69, Sherman Oaks CES 49--Marcus Littlejohn scored a team-high 23 points, but Sherman Oaks lost to first-place Wilson.
