In other City Western League boys’ games:
USDHS 70, University City 60--USDHS outscored University City, 23-7, in the second quarter en route to the victory at home. Anthony Massa and Greg Santos had 18 points apiece, and Peter Ellis added 16 for USDHS (8-6, 1-2). Anthony Hill scored 21 points and Darnes Taylor 19 for University City (12-6, 2-1).
Mission Bay 50, Kearny 45--Kearny (9-9, 1-2) led, 33-31, going into the fourth quarter but J.T. Thomas scored 7 of his 13 points in the final minutes to give Mission Bay (9-6, 1-2) the victory. Palomar League
Torrey Pines 60, Fallbrook 42--After trailing, 25-17, at halftime, No. 1 Torrey Pines (19-1, 5-0) scored the first 10 points of the second half. Kevin Flanagan had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Courtie Miller added 15 points for Torrey Pines. Visiting Fallbrook (8-9, 3-2) was led by Travis Teagle (13 points) and Keith Elston (12).
Orange Glen 69, San Dieguito 56--Cree Morris had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Jeff Leander scored 24 points for host Orange Glen (5-12, 1-4). Shawn Macklin (14 points) was the third Orange Glen player to reach double figures. Brian Malewicz led San Dieguito (7-10, 1-4) with 22 points, and Matt de La Pena added 11.
Mt. Carmel 80, Vista 62--Shane Knight led Mt. Carmel (11-6, 3-2) with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Jeff Hensley added 15 points for Mt. Carmel. Mt. Carmel led, 44-22, at halftime. Vista (1-5, 5-13) was just 7 of 27 from 3-point range.
Metro Conference
Sweetwater 55, Mar Vista 43--Mar Vista slowed the tempo, but it wasn’t enough to stop No. 5 Sweetwater at home. Cortez Rice and John Gilbert had 12 points apiece for Sweetwater (18-2, 7-1), and Carlos Campbell added 10. Jim Gruber’s 10 points paced Mar Vista (2-15, 1-6.)
Southwest 82, Castle Park 63--Adalberto Silva had 23 points and 13 rebounds for No. 7 Southwest (15-5, 7-0). Sean Swensen added 17 points, and Art Balce had 13 assists for host Southwest. Chuck Brown led Castle Park (4-13, 3-5) with 16 points.
Coronado 57, Bonita Vista 52--Jesse McNeil (14) and Darren Burnworth’s 27 points led the Islanders (8-9, 6-2) at Coronado. For Bonita Vista, Matt Gibbs, Alan McNamee and Jeff Harris all had 10 points.
Chula Vista 64, Montgomery 48--Ritchie Greaser had 20 points, Sean Desmond 16 and Derek Chapman 10 for visiting Chula Vista (9-12, 5-2). Montgomery is 0-14 and 0-7.
City Eastern League
Madison 80, Morse 62--Madison (10-8, 2-1) scored 34 points in the fourth quarter. Robby Robinson scored 24 points and had 9 rebounds and Brad Eaddy added 22 points and 18 rebounds for Madison. Morse is 6-9, 2-1.
Point Loma 68, Mira Mesa 57--Marc Ziegler’s 22 points led Mira Mesa (4-14, 0-3) but a balanced effort by Point Loma’s Marcel Brown (19), John Lewis (16), and Griffin Pack (10) led the Pointers (10-8, 2-1).
Grossmont 3-A League
Helix 56, Mt. Miguel 43--Helix shut out Mt. Miguel, 18-0, in the third quarter. John Pressler scored 23 points for Helix. Domingo Rivera scored 13 to lead Mt. Miguel (0-15, 0-5). Helix (11-5, 4-1) led 26-22 at the half.
Avocado League
El Camino 64, Carlsbad 42--Glenn Ankton scored 15 points, Shaun Scurry and Dee Boyer had 14 each, and Travis Gilley added 12 for visiting El Camino (12-5, 1-5). Shaun Swanson had 12 assists for El Camino. Carlsbad is 7-8 and 1-5.
San Pasqual 58, Ramona 51--Ramona (5-11, 2-4) was ahead, 49-44, but San Pasqual (4-2, 7-7) outscored the Bulldogs, 14-2, in the final 6 minutes. Erik Meek scored 33 points and added 17 rebounds for San Pasqual.
Oceanside 69, San Marcos 44--San Marcos (5-11, 1-5) led by 2 points at the end of the first quarter but trailed, 30-21, at halftime. Travis Sweitzer scored 14 points and Joey Balardeta added 13 for San Marcos. Oceanside is 10-4, 5-1.
City Central League
Christian 59, Hoover 50--David Jeremiah scored a game-high 24 points to lead Christian. Alex Davis led Hoover with 16.
Grossmont 2-A League
Santana 80, El Cajon Valley 62--Santana led, 19-9, after the first quarter, but El Cajon Valley rallied to tie the game at 19-19. Santana then scored 54 points in the second half. Matt Panebianco scored 24 of his game-high 34 points in the second half for Santana (11-5, 3-1). Litho Solomon scored 18 and Kevin Davis added 15 for El Cajon Valley (2-11, 0-4) Nonleague
Valhalla 80, El Capitan 64--Tony Clark scored 30 points and Rafid Kiti added 23 for Valhalla (13-5). Clark also had 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 block shots. Brad Smith made all 14 of his free throws in the second half to keep El Capitan (7-11) in the game.
Granite Hills 66, Grossmont 55--Mark Phillips scored 21 points as Granite Hills won its third consecutive game and fourth in its last five. Robert Diesel added 12 points for Granite Hills (12-6). Grossmont is 5-11.
Bishop’s 49, Lutheran 44--Bill Assaf scored 17 points to lead Bishop’s (13-1) over Lutheran (6-7). Eric Falk had 16 points to lead Lutheran.
Girls’ basketball
City Eastern League
Point Loma 60, Mira Mesa 44--Monica Filer scored 17 points and had 13 assists and Tyeast Brown added 23 rebounds for top-ranked Point Loma.
Grossmont 3-A League
Helix 59, Mt. Miguel 40--Julie O’Neal scored a game-high 31 points for host Helix (6-7, 4-1), and Andrea McTrusty added 14. Tanya Chamberlain scored 13 for Mt. Miguel.
City Western League
Mission Bay 76, Kearny 30--Christina Willis led Mission Bay (11-7, 3-0) with 47 points and 18 rebounds. Marissa Pound scored 9 points for Mission Bay, which led, 28-16, at halftime.
City Central League
Our Lady of Peace 54, San Diego 38--Tammy Tavares scored 23 points to lead OLP at home. OLP (13-4, 3-0) used its press to outscore San Diego (5-9, 1-2), 19-11 in the second quarter.
Lincoln 45, Crawford 32--Sheila Dixon scored 21 points and added 18 rebounds to pace Lincoln (12-3, 3-0). Kristy Gudith scored 12 points for Crawford (5-11, 1-2).
Avocado League
Rancho Buena Vista 44, Escondido 25--Shawna Edge’s 10 points and 15 rebounds and Tisha Surface’s 7 points led Rancho Buena Vista (10-7, 3-3). Escondido is 2-12, 0-6.
