High School Roundup : Harvard Romps in Wrestling

Akir Gutierrez (119 pounds), John Lee (132) and Rick Farrell (191) picked up key pins for Harvard High as the Saracens defeated Alemany, 52-21, in a San Fernando Valley League match at Harvard.

It was the 10th consecutive dual meet victory for Harvard (14-2, 4-0).

Canoga Park 41, San Fernando 27--Paul Dinh (98 pounds), Steve Pratt (126), Frank Lopez (138), John Ferris (145), Grant Garrett (154) and Joey Thomas (165) scored pins for Canoga Park in the Valley League match. Phil Guerrero (191) had the Tigers’ only pin.

El Camino Real 46, Birmingham 13--The Conquistadores improved to 26-3 behind pins by Mark Weiss (164 pounds), Orn Avneri (heavyweight), Troy Thomas (191) and Richie Jin (126).

Chatsworth 33, Granada Hills 30--Arlo Kurian (105 pounds), Brian Luckett (138), Glen Masuhara (145) and Doug Fine (154) recorded pins to lead the Chancellors in a Valley League match.

Fillmore 51, Calabasas 21--Pins by Jerry Nestlerode (126 pounds), Mickey Dienoff (132) and Warren Higgins (145) were all Calabasas could muster in the Frontier League match at Fillmore.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 64, Glendale 47--John Gilmore had 22 points and 15 rebounds and Raffie Eskandarian added 20 points for the Falcons in a Pacific League game.

Pasadena 87, Hoover 55--John Hillman’s 25 points couldn’t help the Tornadoes in a Pacific League game. Hoover (6-15, 2-6) fell behind, 53-32, at the intermission.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Alemany 56, Louisville 42--Andrea Hoffman scored 13 of her 29 points in the fourth quarter for the Indian Maidens in the San Fernando Valley League game.

Montclair Prep 39, Maranatha 32--Charis Kubrin scored 14 points and Laura Michael added 9 for Montclair Prep in the Alpha League game.

Bell-Jeff 59, Chaminade 30--Andja Vucurevic scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Guards in a San Fernando Valley League game.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Cleveland 4, Granada Hills 0--Mark Ringsmugh, Miguel Cuadros, Edwing Paz and Juan Carlos Hernandez scored in the Northwest Valley Conference match.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Alemany 1, Chaminade 0--The Indian Maidens clinched the San Fernando Valley League title on a goal by Rachel Corelli on an assist by Kerri Cook.
