College Roundup : College of the Desert Defeats Cypress, 6-5

Rich Gonzalez singled home two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give College of the Desert a 6-5 victory over Cypress Sunday in a nonconference baseball game.

Mike Sparser pitched one inning for the victory and Gonzalez had two hits.

Bobby Thome drove in two runs and Mitch Kaylor had two hits for Cypress.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

California 7, UC Irvine 2--The 10th-ranked Bears swept singles play to upset the fifth-ranked Anteaters at Berkeley. The Anteaters’ only victories came from the doubles teams of Mike Briggs-Kevin Kronemann and Matt Kaplan-Mark Lubner. Briggs and Kronemann defeated Doug Eiseman and Matt Lucena, 7-6, 6-3. Kaplan and Lubner defeated Carl Chang and Kurt Streeter, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
