Community College Baseball Roundup : Rancho Santiago Wins With Wild Finish in Ninth, 8-7
John McTaggart scored on a wild pitch with one out in the bottom of the ninth to lift Rancho Santiago College to an 8-7 victory over MiraCosta Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game.
With one out, McTaggart singled, moved to second on a single by Joey Townsend and to third when Mark Dion reached on an error. MiraCosta pitcher Dan Sudd then threw the wild pitch.
Conrad Colby was three for four with a run batted in and is seven for eight in his first two games.
Marty Neff had a solo home run and Dion had three hits for Rancho Santiago (2-0).
In other nonconference games:
Golden West 6, Palomar 1--John Gonzales threw a six-hitter to lead host Golden West (2-0). The Rustlers scored four runs in the eighth inning to break a open a 2-1 game. Robb Carabba had a two-run single in the eighth and finished with three hits and two RBIs.
Dan Villegas also had three hits and two RBIs for Golden West.
Saddleback 3, Long Beach 1--With two on and two outs, Ryan Henderson entered the game and earned the save for visiting Saddleback (2-0).
Sean Therein, a freshman from Saddleback High School, had a triple to drive in a run in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. He later scored on a grounder for Saddleback’s final run. Jeff Walters, a sophomore outfielder, had three hits and scored a run for Saddleback.
