High School Roundup : Harvard Completes League Wrestling Sweep

Four Harvard High wrestlers won league titles Saturday to pace the Saracens to the team championship in the San Fernando Valley League tournament at Chaminade.

Harvard, which also won the league dual-meet title, finished with 170 points, followed by Alemany (123) and Faith Baptist (121).

Richard Shin, in the 105-pound class, Akir Gutierrez (119), John Lee (126) and Rick Farrell (195) took weight classes for Harvard.

First and second-place finishers advance to the Southern Section 1-A Division finals Friday and Saturday at Sierra Vista High.

Dustin Gaspari (112) of Faith Baptist and Chaminade’s Justin Stark (175) were named most valuable wrestlers.

Frontier League--Host Santa Paula took the league tournament with a strong showing in the upper weight divisions. Steve Baer of Agoura won the 105-pound class and Gau Diaz of Moorpark took the 98-pound title. Also winning titles were Moorpark’s J. T. Miranda (112), Paul Gutierrez (126) and Mike Jennings (132), Agoura’s Brian Bengelsdorf (138) and Calabasas’ Warren Higgins (145).

Matt Shapiro (98), Evan Adler (138) and Brian Kirkpatrick (191) of Calabasas, and Dave Soucy (145) and Mike Matthis (heavyweight) of Agoura placed second.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Grace Community 66, South Bay Lutheran 51--Grace Community won its first league title in the Westside League tournament final.
