Prep Basketball Playoffs Roundup : Murray Leads Glendora Over Agoura

Senior 6-foot 8-inch center Tracy Murray of Glendora (26-1) scored 50 points as the Tartans easily defeated Agoura, 109-60, Friday night in a Southern Section 4-AA boys’ basketball second-round playoff game at Glendora High.

Murray, who is averaging 45 points a game, has scored 1,207 points this season.

Against Agoura (9-13), Murray made 19 of 28 shots from the floor, including five of 11 from the three-point line, and sank 10 of 11 free throws. Agoura was led by Sean Martin, who had 16 points.

Manual Arts 97, Narbonne 47--Ken Bennett of Manual Arts had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the No. 1-seeded Toilers (22-0) to an easy first-round victory in a City 4-A game at Manual Arts High. Narbonne (3-18) took a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Manual Arts went on a 16-2 run and increased its lead to 46-23 by halftime.

Crenshaw 62, Kennedy 48--Senior guard Terry Cannon had a game-high 23 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, to carry Crenshaw (18-2), the No. 3-seeded team in the City 4-A division, to a come-from-behind victory over Kennedy (12-9) in a first-round game at Crenshaw. The Cougars trailed, 18-13, after the first period, but they never let go of the lead after going ahead, 31-26, at halftime.

Los Angeles 86, Poly 73--John Bruner had 28 points and Scott Cooper added 27 points for Poly (11-11), but it wasn’t enough to overcome the balanced scoring of Los Angeles (15-8), which defeated the Parrots in a City 3-A first-round game at Los Angeles. Adam Henderson had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead Los Angeles.

St. Monica 76, Lynwood 53--Using a strong press in the second half, St. Monica (21-5), which led only 32-29 at the half, moved to a comfortable win in a 5-AA second-round game at Lynwood. Chris Cotton was St. Monica’s leading scorer with 23 points.

La Canada 80, Pomona 75 (OT)--La Canada (25-2), trailing for most of the game, tied the game with 17 seconds remaining in regulation, 67-67, on Chad Givens layup in the 2-AA second-round game at La Canada High. La Canada trailed, 57-42, with 5:30 remaining in the game but rallied behind Chris Jones and Givens. In the fourth quarter, Jones scored 10 of his 30 points and Givens scored 12 of his 25. In overtime, Givens had three points and Jones two.

Oakwood 69, Mammoth 62--Mitchell Butler of Oakwood (18-5) was held to 22 points, but Jon Mark also scored 22 as the Gorillas defeated Mammoth (14-4) in a 1-A second-round game at Mammoth.
