Fullerton, Golden West Women Open Tonight in State Tournament
The Fullerton and Golden West college women’s basketball teams play first-round games tonight in the eight-team state tournament at Los Angeles Valley College.
Golden West (14-16) plays College of the Sequoias (33-3), which defeated Golden West by 10 points in late November.
Fullerton (26-1) takes on Contra Costa (28-8) at 8 p.m.
“We don’t know that much about Contra Costa,” Fullerton Coach Colleen Riley said. “But we are more concerned with the way we play. If we play well we should be OK.”
The three-day tournament opens today with American River (26-4) playing Los Angeles Trade Tech (28-1) at 2 p.m. Golden West plays at 4.
Los Angeles Valley (29-3) plays San Mateo (29-1) at 6. Fullerton plays at 8.
The winners of the first two games play at 6 p.m. Friday in one semifinal and the winners of the second two games meet in the other semifinal at 8.
The championship game is at 8 p.m. Saturday.
