THE PREPS : Roundup : Williams Sparks El Toro’s Victory in Volleyball


Dan Williams had 15 kills as El Toro High School swept Mission Viejo, 15-10, 15-5, 15-10, Tuesday in a South Coast League volleyball match at El Toro.

Mike Shannon had 11 kills and Doug O’Brien nine for the Chargers (8-2 overall, 5-0 in league play).

In other South Coast League matches:

Capistrano Valley 3, Dana Hills 0--Rob Crotty had 13 kills as the Cougars (5-6, 2-3) swept, 15-8, 15-12, 15-13, at Capistrano Valley.


In Sea View League boys’ volleyball:

Corona del Mar 3, Tustin 1--Chris Pliha had seven kills and five blocks as the Sea Kings (7-1, 5-0) won, 15-2, 15-2, 9-15, 15-2, at Corona del Mar.

Newport Harbor 3, Foothill 0--Tony Mertz had seven kills as the Sailors (5-4, 3-2) swept, 15-7, 15-4, 15-11, at Newport Harbor.

University 3, Estancia 1--Stefan Mumaw had 18 kills as the Trojans (8-1, 3-1) won, 15-4, 15-11, 15-17, 15-5, at University.

In Century League golf:

El Modena 168, Villa Park 188--Alex Vorobieff shot a one-under-par 30 to lead El Modena (11-1, 5-0) at Ridgeline Country Club.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 185, Western 206--Kevin Clayborn of Brea-Olinda shot a two-under-par 33 at Dad Miller golf course.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 208, Orange 223--John Fischer shot a two-over-par 38 at Coto de Caza Golf Course to lead Trabuco Hills (11-4, 5-1). Orange is 4-2.


In the Sea View League:

Estancia 193, Tustin 245--Chris Lowry and Mike Anderson both shot a par-36 for Estancia at Rancho San Joaquin golf course.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 395, San Clemente 436 (18 holes)--Tom Heren shot a two-over-par 74 for Dana Hills (15-1, 7-1) at El Niguel golf course.

El Toro 386, Irvine 440 (18 holes)--Rob Haslam shot a one-under par 71 for El Toro (16-0, 7-0) at the El Toro Marine base golf course.

In Angelus League boys’ tennis:

Mater Dei 10, Servite 8--Brothers Dax and Adam Peterson led host Mater Dei (13-1, 8-0) with victories in No. 1 and 2 singles.

In the Century League:

Canyon 17, Santa Ana 1--At Canyon, Mike Le and Rick Chuang led the way with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, sweep in No. 1 doubles. Canyon is 7-7, 4-1.

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 12, Los Amigos 6--Phong Nguyen swept in singles to lead the Matadors (8-1 in league play) at Bolsa Grande.


In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 18, Ocean View 0--Andy Stewart swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, for Huntington Beach (11-7, 4-3) at Ocean View.
