Titans’ Sneed Picks Dion as Assistant

Dan Dion, an assistant basketball coach at New Mexico State the past four seasons, has joined the Cal State Fullerton staff as an assistant to Coach John Sneed.

Dion, 35, joins Donny Daniels, who was Sneed’s only assistant during Sneed’s season as interim coach. Sneed was named coach in March after guiding the Titans to a 16-13 record.

“I think Dan is a quality addition to our staff and we’re excited to have him join us,” Sneed said. “His West Coast contacts will help us in recruiting, and his experience in the Big West Conference will be a big help also. I’ve known Dan for several years and he is a hard worker with great knowledge on and off the floor.”

Dion assisted Coach Neil McCarthy at Weber State for three seasons before he followed McCarthy to New Mexico State in 1985. Dion’s association with McCarthy began when he played for McCarthy at St. Patrick’s High School in Vallejo. Dion went on to star at Weber State and St. Mary’s before beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant to McCarthy as Weber State in 1976.

Dion returned to St. Patrick’s as head coach for five years before re-joining McCarthy at Weber State.
