High School Roundup : Chatsworth Wins 16th in a Row, 5-4

Reed McMackin probably would be the No. 1 starting pitcher for most high school teams. But with Chatsworth teammate Derek Wallace, a senior, undefeated in eight starts, McMackin, a junior, is decidedly second.

He is also undefeated in seven starts.

McMackin scattered 10 hits and struck out nine as the Chancellors defeated Cleveland, 5-4, Thursday in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.

The win was Chatsworth’s 16th in a row and 42nd in the past 46 games.

McMackin (7-0) also hit a three-run double to highlight Chatsworth’s four-run first inning. Cleveland (3-6-1, 5-8-1) scored twice in the second on a single by Tony Holiday before Chatsworth (17-2, 10-0 in league play) took a 5-2 lead in the fourth.

In the fifth, Pat Bryant hit a two-run home run, but McMackin held on for the complete game. “It was typical McMackin,” Chatsworth Coach Bob Lofrano said. “He’s a real gutsy pitcher.”
