High School Roundup : Cadham, Stelle Lead Agoura Swimmers

Led by Tyler Cadham and Jason Stelle, the Agoura High boys’ swim team remained undefeated with a 121-33 victory over Santa Clara in a Frontier League meet Friday at Agoura.

Cadham won the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 8.92 seconds and swam legs in the victorious 400 freestyle relay (3:37.53) and 200 medley relay (1:53.37).

Stelle, who also swam legs in the relay events, won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.23 for Agoura (8-0, 4-0 in league meets).

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Agoura 105, Santa Clara 59--Jennifer Bissell won the 200 individual medley (2:22.75), 100 backstroke (1:12.95) and swam a leg on the victorious 200 medley relay team (2:05.17) as Agoura (7-2, 4-0) won a Frontier League meet.

SOFTBALL

Agoura 18, Nordhoff 1--Melissa Thatcher threw a two-hitter, struck out seven and added a solo home run to lead the host Chargers in the Frontier League game.

Michelle Ray had four hits and four runs batted in for the Chargers (13-2, 4-0).

Calabasas 4, Santa Clara 2--Keri Ellman was two for four and pitched a five-hitter, striking out six in a Frontier League game. Taleen Noradoukian was two for three and Heather Siegel was three for four for Calabasas (7-5, 2-2).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Crespi d. Alemany, 15-3, 15-7, 12-15, 15-6--Ken Lynch and Chris McGee each had 15 kills for Crespi in a Del Rey League match at Alemany.

Royal d. Simi Valley, 15-1, 15-6, 15-5--Craig Parker had 12 kills and Dean Borth had 37 assists to lead Royal (11-1, 6-0) in the Frontier League match at Royal. Matt Brown added five kills.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Kennedy 84 1/2, Cleveland 7 1/2--Daima Calhoun won the long jump with a mark of 14 feet, 11 1/2 inches and cleared 4-6 to win the high jump for host Kennedy in the North Valley League meet.

The victory clinched the Golden Cougars’ 11th consecutive dual-meet league crown. Kennedy (7-0) won 10 consecutive Mid-Valley League titles before moving to the North Valley League this season.

Kisa Martin won the 300-meter low hurdles in 52.7 for Kennedy. She also placed second (17.5) in the 100 low hurdles behind teammate Kathy McClain (17.0).

Chatsworth 65, Taft 44--Chatsworth junior Lori Mertes won two events in a West Valley League meet at Taft. Mertes, in her first meet since returning from academic ineligibility, took the high jump in 5-8 and the shotput in 33-11.

Birmingham 81 2/3, Reseda 27 1/3--Cheri-Lee Segal won three events and anchored Birmingham’s victorious mile-relay team in a Mid-Valley League meet.

Segal won the 880 (2:35.5), mile (5:57.6) and two-mile (13:01.2) as Birmingham (8-0, 7-0) clinched the league title.

Montoya Johnson also won three events for the Braves, taking the 100 meters (13.7), 440 yards (1:06.7) and long jump (15-2).

BOYS’ TRACK

Birmingham 84, Reseda 42--Rodney Burt won three events and anchored the Braves’ victorious 440-yard relay team in a Mid-Valley League meet at Reseda.

Burt took the 100 meters (11.0), the 220 yards (22.9) and the 440 (51.3) as Birmingham clinched its second consecutive league title.

Brian Gastelum also tripled, winning the 880 (2:07.7), mile (5:07) and two-mile (11:12).

Jason Wallace had a personal best of 6-3 to win the high jump and won the shotput at 44-4. Steve Weinberger won the long jump (19-9) and triple jump (39- 1/2) for Birmingham (8-0, 7-0).

Bill Childs won the 120-yard high hurdles in 15.3, one of only two wins for Reseda (6-2, 5-2).

Kennedy 75, Cleveland 51--Patrick Blake won the long jump at 19-6 and cleared 6-0 to win the high jump for host Kennedy in the North Valley League meet.

Jorge Duran won the mile in 4:46.8 and the two-mile in 10:40.0 for the Golden Cougars (5-2, 2-1).
