City Central League

St. Augustine 2, Crawford 1--Brad Gennaro drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the seventh as St. Augustine (12-10, 7-5) handed No. 5 Crawford (19-4, 11-1) its first league loss. Mark Jackson (5-1) scattered seven Crawford hits, four of which came in the fourth inning, when St. Augustine prevented any runs from scoring by throwing two runners out at the plate. St. Augustine scored its other run on a two-out double by Mike Mossuto in the sixth.

Hoover 12, Christian 6--Albert Canedo (three for four with two RBIs) and Roger Blake (two for four, three RBIs) led Hoover’s avalanche. Hoover moved to 13-9-1 and 8-4 in league. Christian is 6-13 and 4-8.

San Diego 17, Lincoln 9--San Diego’s Josh Stepner struck out 11 in five innings and came through offensively with a home run. Teammates Kian Sly (three hits, three RBIs) and Brian Baird (two hits, two RBIs) also chipped in.

City Eastern League

Madison 6, Mira Mesa 4--Devin Fitzmaurice went the distance, allowing seven hits to hand No. 2 Mira Mesa (18-4, 10-2) its second loss this week. Madison is 17-6, 9-3.

Morse 7, Serra 2--Aaron Terry and Steve Smith had three hits each to lead Madison, and starting pitcher Chris Nelson struck out five in four innings of work.

Patrick Henry 4, Point Loma 1--Mike Coleman hit a ground-rule double with the bases loaded in the fifth to knock in two runs and ice the game. Teammate Brian Simmons went three for four and now has 44 hits this season.

City Western League

Mission Bay 5, La Jolla 0--J.T. Thomas pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine for No. 3 Mission Bay (19-3, 10-1). La Jolla is 4-19, 1-11. Pat Betancourt was two for two with two walks and scored twice, and Thomas had two RBIs.

University City 10, Kearny 1--Jeff Sevier (5-5) pitched a five-hitter, and University City got seven unearned runs on eight Kearny errors.

USDHS 9, Clairemont 2--Gavin Millay worked five strong innings on the mound and also drove in a run before leaving after the fifth for his Confirmation. David Sanchez also had two hits and an RBI. No. 9 USDHS is 17-4, 9-2 in league.

Grossmont 3-A League

Granite Hills 12, Mt. Miguel 3--John Fenn went three for three with a double, triple and an RBI, and Shane Spenser went two for four with three RBIs, a double and a triple for Granite Hills (14-9, 3-3). Ryan O’Coyne (7-2) struck out 14. Gene Ethridge hit a two-run homer in the fifth for Mt. Miguel (2-20, 0-6).

Nonleague

Helix 17, Santana 1--Twelve Helix players collected hits in this one. Dvid Caporale led the way for the No. 6 Highlanders with three hits, three runs and two RBIs. Other stars included: Jason Ledford, two hits, two RBIs; Tom Hall, two hits, two RBIs; and Rob Ippolito, one hit, three RBIs.

Monte Vista 7, El Cajon Valley 2--Bryan Paul hit a three-run home run in the first inning to pace Monte Vista.

Francis Parker 16, Lutheran 2--Pitcher Tom Tobin made life easy for himself on the mound as he collected three hits--including two doubles--and four RBIs.
