Players of the Year Named for Softball and Volleyball

San Diego Section officials announced softball and boys’ volleyball players of the year Tuesday.

Seniors Suzy Lawrence and Kristy Howard of Monte Vista High School were named 3-A softball players of the year. Grossmont senior Brenna Hancock and Bishop’s junior Ginger Bial were honored for softball in divisions 2-A and 1-A, respectively.

San Dieguito junior Eric Sullivan and Lincoln junior Ala Mikaele were named San Diego Section volleyball players of the year in divisions 3-A and 2-A, respectively.

SPORTS CAMPS

The Cincinnati Reds will hold a tryout camp for players between the ages of 16 and 22 Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Palomar College baseball field.

No player who is on a draft list may participate and members of American Legion teams must have written permission from their coaches to participate.

Players wishing to work out must bring their own uniforms, gloves and spikes.

Al Schaffer’s 1989 Ramona Basketball School, a camp for players from fourth grade through high school, will be June 19-23 at Ramona High School. San Diego State basketball Coach Jim Brandenburg is the special guest coach.

The registration fee is $35 for Ramona High School District residents and $45 for non-residents. Players registered by Friday receive a free basketball. For more information, call Al Schaffer at 788-5015.
