Butch Baird, who has only one victory in four years on the Senior PGA Tour, shot a six-under-par 58 over 16 holes Friday to take the first-round lead in the flood-plagued Northville tournament at Jericho, N.Y.

The opening round of the 54-hole tournament was shortened because the ninth and 14th holes of the par-72 Meadow Brook Club course were flooded by weeklong rains.

Don Bies, the defending champion, and four other players trailed Baird by one stroke. Also at 59 were Paul Moran, George Lanning, Frank Beard and Orville Moody, who won last week’s Senior Tournament Players Championship.

Missie Berteotti, who has yet to win in four years on the LPGA tour, shot a six-under-par 66 to take a one-stroke first-round lead in the Lady Keystone Open at Hershey, Pa.

Berteotti, who missed the cut in four of her last five appearances, had seven birdies and one bogey on the soggy West Course of the Hershey Country Club.

Long-hitting Briton Laura Davies shot a 67 and was second, while Ok-Hee Ku and Jackie Bertsch were third at 68. Betsy King, Sherrin Smyers, Pat Bradley, Marci Bozarth and Mei-Chi Cheng were at 69.
