California Wins Sunbelt Tournament Baseball Title
Roger Sweeney of San Rafael High School had four runs batted in as California defeated Florida, 16-8, Monday in the championship game of the Sunbelt baseball tournament at Oral Roberts University.
Phil Nevin of El Dorado High had two hits, two runs scored and one run batted in, and Jason Evans of Chatsworth had three RBIs for California.
California advanced to the title game by defeating Oklahoma, 11-2, earlier in the day.
Pete Janicki of El Dorado pitched three shutout innings, striking out five, for the victory in the early game. Nevin had three hits and one RBI.
The tournament included graduating high school seniors from Oklahoma, California and Florida.
