San Diego State Wednesday announced three changes in its men’s basketball coaching staff, including the resignation of Kevin McLeod, an assistant coach.

McLeod, who came with Coach Jim Brandenburg from Wyoming in 1987, resigned to accept an assistant coach’s job at Weber State.

Named to replace McLeod and Charles Bradley, who resigned as a basketball assistant May 27 to become an assistant at Brigham Young, were Jimmy Williams, an assistant at Tulsa, and Maury Hanks, a part-time assistant the past two seasons at SDSU.

McLeod and Bradley played for Brandenburg at Wyoming before joining him as assistant coaches.

Williams, 42, was an assistant at Minnesota from 1971 until 1986. He was named acting head coach at Minnesota for conclusion of the 1986 season when Coach Jim Dutcher resigned in January after three Minnesota players were charged in a sexual assault case.

Williams was implicated in National Collegiate Athletic Assn. rules violations at Minnesota in 1975 under then-Coach Bill Musselman, again in 1983-86 under Dutcher and while he was acting coach. The violations resulted in Minnesota being placed on NCAA probation.

Williams said he offered to resign after the first violations but that the university retained him. When he was not rehired by Minnesota after the 1986 season, Williams left coaching for two seasons before joining Tulsa as an assistant and recruiting coordinator.

Hanks, 27, came to SDSU two years ago from Clemson, where he was a graduate assistant for two seasons. He is a graduate of Cal State Northridge.
