Hawaiian Team Defeats Morse

Morse High School committed 16 penalties for 148 yards in losing, 24-17, to host St. Louis of Hawaii Saturday night in its season opener.

It was St. Louis’ 41st consecutive victory, a streak covering four seasons.

David Dunn returned a kickoff 91 yards for the Tigers’ first score after St. Louis had opened a 14-0 lead. The Tigers tied the score on quarterback Teddy Lawrence’s 68-yard run.

Lawrence passed for 155 yards, completing 11 of 25 passes and throwing two interceptions. Donnie Nash caught seven passes for 107 yards.

LONGBOARDING

Fallbrook’s Steve Walden, a masters division entry, won the noseriding division of the fifth Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club contest at the Oceanside Pier.

Walden’s accumulated time of 38.64 was more than eight seconds better than second-place finisher Israel Paskowitz of San Clemente.

Joel Tudor of Pacific Beach took first place in the junior division and finished fourth in noseriding.
