Quarterback Chris Reed’s one-yard run with 8 minutes 58 seconds left gave Katella High Schoola 6-6 tie with Orange Friday before 1,500 at El Modena High School. Katella is 1-1-1; Orange is 2-0-1.
The tie was set up by Reed’s only pass completion in 10 attempts, a 43-yarder to wide receiver Pat Carter. After Orange held on two running plays, Reed carried it in on a third-down quarterback sneak.
Orange came close to scoring with 1:35 left, but Justin Zayas’ 28-yard field goal attempt was wide right.
Orange scored its touchdown with 3:10 left in the first quarter on a 12-yard run by tailback Brian Remmell.
The game’s leading ground gainer was Nate White, a 144-pound running back for Orange, who gained 99 yards in 22 carries. Remmell had 73 yards on nine carries.
