San Clemente Hangs On to Beat Laguna Hills, 10-7

Juan Maldonado rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown Friday to lead San Clemente to a 10-7 nonleague victory over Laguna Hills at Mission Viejo High School.

Laguna Hills had a chance to tie the score on the game’s final play, but Marc Brodbeck’s 44-yard field goal attempt was short.

Prep football--Darrin Chapman scored on a 72-yard touchdown for Laguna Hills Friday in a 10-7 loss to San Clemente. He was incorrectly identified in Saturday’s edition of The Times.

Maldonado, who carried 12 times, scored San Clemente’s touchdown on a 19-yard run with 11:33 left in the second quarter.

The score was set up by Maldonado’s 54-yard burst off tackle on the previous play.

Laguna Hills’ Marwan Saba gained 185 yards in 20 carries and scored Laguna Hills touchdown on a 72-yard run.
