High School Football : Rucker Runs Roughshod Over Bell-Jeff
Sophomore Pathon Rucker’s 15-yard scoring run with 1:22 remaining propelled Glendale High to a 28-21 nonleague win over Bell-Jeff on Saturday night at Burroughs High.
Rucker, a tailback playing in his second varsity game, rushed for 237 yards and two touchdowns in 17 carries. Rucker also had an 88-yard kickoff return to set up a score.
Bell-Jeff knotted the score, 21-21, in the third quarter on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Rod Chapman to Steve Szekely.
Glendale (1-2) opened the scoring on a seven-yard run by Rucker, which capped a 96-yard drive. The Guards came back to tie on a 32-yard run by Earl Matthews.
Rucker returned the ensuing kickoff 88 yards to the eight-yard line and junior Kyiamo-Waki Jones scored from four yards. Bell-Jeff again tied the score on an 11-yard scoring run by Alfred Silva after a 73-yard drive.
Glendale led at the half, 21-14, after a 14-yard scoring strike from Eric Keisau to John Martell.
