Special teams player Josh Beldon filled in for injured teammate Nick Cantu at defensive end and had two of Tustin’s four sacks. Winless El Dorado dropped its seventh game in a row, a 33-0 Empire League loss to Esperanza. At least El Dorado fans didn’t have to see the result on the scoreboard; a second-half power failure forced officials to keep the score and official time.

QUOTE UNQUOTE

‘If we could only win one game this year, this is the one I wanted to win.’

--COY COLLINS, Loara running back, whose team has been prevented from going to the playoffs each of the last two seasons when it lost to Katella in the last regular-season game of the season.

‘Coach, who’s supposed to be blocking those guys?’

--MARK MORENO, La Habra quarterback, to Highlander Coach Jack Nicholls in the third quarter after Sunny Hills’ defense pressured him into his seventh consecutive incomplete pass.

‘I wouldn’t say there was a monkey on my back, but it feels good to finally beat La Habra after losing to those guys four straight years.’

--TIM DEVANEY, Sunny Hills coach, after a 31-6 victory.
