La Habra, Brown Roll to 37-0 Victory Over Sonora

Mark Brown rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns to lead La Habra High School to a 37-0 victory over Sonora in a Freeway League game Friday in front of 1,300 at La Habra High School.

Brown scored on runs of 43, three and five yards as the Highlanders (4-4 overall, 2-1 in league play) rolled up 302 yards rushing.

After Brown’s first touchdown, Jeff Besinaiz scored on an 80-yard run with 2:34 left in the first quarter. He took a pitch on the left side, went down the sideline, cut to the middle at about the Sonora 30 and raced in from there.

La Habra added a touchdown and a safety in the second quarter and led, 23-0, at the half.

The touchdown came on a 15-yard pass from quarterback Mark Moreno to Andrew Amparano with 9:47 left in the second quarter. The safety came after Sonora snapped the ball out of the end zone from punt formation.

Brown scored twice more in the third quarter on short runs to finish the scoring for La Habra. Matt Cone kicked five of five extra points for La Habra.
