LOCAL : 3 Brush Fires in Moorpark Burn 40 Acres; No Threat to Buildings
Three wind-whipped brush fires that burned about 40 acres in Moorpark were completely contained by firefighters before any structures were damaged, the Ventura County Fire Department reported today.
The first fire, which burned 20 acres Sunday afternoon near Valley Road and Everett Street, was contained about 5 p.m., dispatch supervisor Sam Meier said. Several nearby homes escaped damage.
About three hours later, a small fire was reported to the east near California 23, but it was quickly extinguished after less than an acre burned, Meier said. Then at 8:30 p.m., a flare-up near Nogales and Los Angeles avenues briefly threatened homes and burned 20 acres of brush before being extinguished, Meier said.
